The Notion of Motion Show Preparation

Introduction:

Sometimes a word on good manners for guests is appropriate, but normally not necessary. This is also an opportunity for the PTA to let the children know they arranged for this program (i.e. "This program is sponsored by the PTA. If you wondered where the money from the wrapping paper went, now you know."). Dr. Quark will take over after hearing the end of the introduction which is as follows:

"Today we have a guest Chemist. Let's have a warm ______________ School welcome for Dr. Quinton Quark."

Show Requirements:

1. Clean & clear performance area.
2. 3 folding chairs, 1 music stand, and 1 table on the stage area (6 foot table is fine).
3. An outlet somewhere near the stage and an extension cord (20' is generally long enough).
4. If show is to be in a gym or cafeteria, when the children are seated an 8-foot center aisle must be left. This area will be used in the performance and cannot be smaller for safety reasons. Tape or cones on the floor is a good idea. We ask that teachers sit along this aisle to assist in maintaining it; the children MUST be kept out of the taped off aisle.
5. Performance area (stage) cannot be carpeted, (the "motion" demos won't move well enough).
6. If a stage is 25' or more across, and 12' or more deep, the entire program can take place up on the stage. If the stage is smaller in either direction, the finale will need to be moved off stage - either into the middle aisle or across the front of the stage.

Show Volunteers:

A handful of kids will be asked to help - they'll need to offer good answers for questions about what's been discussed in the show. Enthusiasm and size count in addition to attentiveness.During the demonstrations for Newton's 2nd Law I will need 4 teacher volunteers, sometimes 5. They shouldn't be wearing high heels : it's an opportunity for teachers to join in the fun.
